How to Turn Your Handwritten Signature into a Digital One

If you'd rather use your real signature than a drawn or typed approximation, here's how to digitize it properly.

Drawing a signature with a mouse rarely looks like your real one, and even a finger-drawn signature on a phone can come out shakier than your actual handwriting. If you want your signature to actually look like yours, the better approach is to sign on paper once and turn that into a reusable image.

    Sign on plain white paper

    Use a dark pen on plain, unlined paper for the cleanest result — a thick marker or gel pen shows up better than a fine ballpoint.

    Photograph or scan it in good, even light

    Natural daylight from a window works well. Avoid shadows falling across the signature, and get the camera as parallel to the page as possible to avoid distortion.

    Upload the photo using the Signature tool's Upload tab

    Open the signature tool in the PDF filler, switch to Upload, and choose the photo.

    Let the background get cleaned up automatically

    The tool does a best-effort removal of the white background so only your signature strokes show — a well-lit, high-contrast photo gives this the best chance of working cleanly.

    Save it for reuse

    Choose "Save & Use" so this digitized signature is ready instantly the next time you need to sign something, stored only on your own device.

If the background removal isn't perfect

Try a photo with more contrast between the ink and the paper — a darker pen or brighter, more even lighting usually fixes it.
